Privacy
What we collect, why, and what we do not do with it.
What we store
When you create an account we store your email address, the display name you choose, and a hashed version of your password. We never store your password itself.
Sign-up asks four more questions, all of them required: which country you are in, how long you have followed markets, your date of birth, and how you found this site. Nothing on the site behaves differently based on your answers, and none of them is ever shown publicly. We ask because together they tell us who the research reaches and how they got here, which is how we decide what to measure next.
Your date of birth is there for one more reason: you have to be 18 or older to open an account, and it is how we check. We store the date itself, not just your age.
We also record the time you last signed in, so we can see whether accounts are being used, and which plan your account is on. Both are private.
If you post or comment in the community, we store what you wrote, when, and which account wrote it. If you send us a message through the contact form, we store your name, the email you gave, the message, and the IP address it came from.
What is public
Community posts and comments are readable by anyone, including people who are not logged in. They are shown with your display name. Your full email address is never shown publicly.
Everything else — your account, your saved work, your contact messages — is private. That includes all four sign-up answers, your date of birth among them, and the time you last signed in: none of it is ever shown to anyone but us.
Why we keep an IP address
Only for the contact form, and only to limit spam. It is not used to build a profile of you, and it is not shared.
Measuring traffic
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit and which pages they read. It records page views, the referring site, an approximate country, and a device type.
It sets no cookies, does not follow you to other websites, and is not connected to your account — so we cannot tell which pages any particular person read, only how many people read each page.
Third parties
We do not sell your data and we do not run advertising trackers. The site runs on cloud infrastructure (currently Amazon Web Services) and uses Cloudflare for DNS, delivery and the traffic measurement described above, so those providers necessarily handle traffic to the site.
Deleting your account
Email us through the contact form and we will remove your account and its content. There is no self-serve delete button yet. Messages you sent us through the contact form may be kept as a record of the conversation and for dealing with abuse.
Changes
If this changes materially we will say so on the site rather than quietly editing the page.
